Who loves the animal alphabet?

OrganicBabyGiftBoutique.com certainly does!  Lions, bears, giraffes, and newts (a member of the salamander family) are only a few of the animals found on bioME5’s clever take on the animal alphabet. Modern photographic animal images and their corresponding letters are featured on organic cotton onesies and toddler tees.   Upside down words too?  The bioME 5 Animal Alphabet Project was created and inspired by an intrigue of a child's visual learning process.  A child can easily read the images when looking down at his or her shirt allowing for recognition of letters, animals, and words.

Another reason to love this line of organic baby and kids clothes?   All baby onesies and toddler tees are made fair trade from the softest certified organic cotton in the United States.  Tagless and preshrunk too.

Safe Cosmetics - Join the fight!

An interesting video came across my email today from the Story of Stuff regarding Safe Cosmetics.  The video is definitely worth a watch and I encourage anyone interested in safe cosmetics and personal care products for our children to take action and support the Safe Cosmetics Act 2010.  Is really easy to do so by filling out the form at the end of the video.   I'm off to toss the Pantene shampoo now!

Hand-Made Baby Shower Gift - Eazz Wraps Organic Baby Blanket

Struggling to find a fabulous baby shower gift?  An organic baby gift would not be complete without an Eazz Wraps organic baby banket.  These organic baby blankets are hand-made with love straight from California.  Founder, Melinda Ott, created the company in 2007, after searching for blankets with room enough for her twins.

Nothing but the softest organic cotton or hemp is used and the prints are easy to match back to most organic baby bedding sets.  Organic cotton crib sheets are also available in solid colors.

Eazz Wraps blankets measure 45"x45" so there is plenty of room for multiple babies and of course, the tiniest of babies will enjoy being comforted in these pretty creations too.  Adorable ribbon ties allow the organic baby blanket to attach easily to a stroller.  The blanket also serves as a great cover up for nursing.
Featured below is the sweet Zoey Sateen organic baby blanket named after one of the founder's twins.

Toxic Chemicals Lobby: Exclusive Leaked Footage

What a video!  Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families coalition created this message. The cartoon keeps a serious issue interesting.  Do you know what is in your home?

Time for a Plastics Intervention

We have all heard by now the dangers of bisphenol-A (BPA) in plastics.  Essentially, BPA is a chemical which mimics estrogen potentially causing hormone disruption.  This is especially damaging in young children during development. New York and California are both close to passing a law banning BPA in food and drink containers for young children. Vermont, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Washington, Maryland, Minnesota, and the city of Chicago are also on board.  A huge win for our children.

I'll admit, it isn't easy keeping track of all the do's and dont's regarding health and food safety these days.  I need to be reminded of the rules every once in awhile.  If you do too, here are a few basic tips to keep products with BPA at bay.

Plastics - Stick to those numbered 1, 2, 4 & 5.  Toss any marked 3 & 6.  Also throw out any marked 7 - unless they specifically state "Bpa-free".   A great alternative is to buy reusable water bottles.  Lifefactory is just one brand that has a great selection to choose from.  Their glass bottles come with fashion color silicone sleeves which not only look neat, but allow a better grip on the bottle.  Lifefactory makes baby bottles too!

Don't microwave food in plastic containers.  Also, avoid serving heated food in plastic containers.  The hormones can leach into plastic that is hot and wet. Glass is a great alternative.

When reusing plastic, wash by hand rather than using the dishwasher.  Heat from the dishwasher can cause chemicals to seep out.

Hope these little tips help keep your family safe and free of BPA products.
